The First Step
The first step to being admitted is contacting one of our professional addictions counsellors on either:
- Phone call (081 444 7000)
- Email: [email protected]
- Online chat
- Website enquiry
Taking this first step to reach out can be hard one to take. However once you understand more about our unique treatment process you will realise there is nothing to fear and everything to gain.
Meeting and Assessment
An assessment meeting will determine what is actually going on. By understanding the stage of the addiction or disorder and gaining a deeper understanding of the core drivers which are currently fuelling the process we can figure out how best to treat it. From here a successful treatment programme can start to be developed around you as an individual.
Assessment meetings can be conducted telephonically or over Skype with our trained counsellors in Johannesburg.
Availability and Suitability
Not all patients require residential treatment. Depending on the outcomes of the assessment, we would make recommendations to enter either the residential care facility, outpatient treatment programme, specialised counselling or local recovery or group meetings.
Online Outpatient treatment admissions are always subject to the number of beds/room availability and the greater wellbeing of our community.
Addiction can be broken into the following prominent categories.
- Substances ingested to achieve a change of some sort.
- Chemicals produced by the body itself as a result of a behaviour.
- Chemicals, substances or actions taken that allow another addiction to continue.
Disorder criteria measures one or more of these factors before patients are accepted for admissions.
- Tolerance
- Withdrawal
- Greater quantity or intensity than intended
- Unsuccessful attempts at slowing down or stopping
- Time spent (preparing, engaging, recovering)
- Continuation despite consequences
Other criteria includes:
- Secrecy
- Use as an escape
- Guilt
- Illegal activities
Full medical assessments will be performed upon arrival at the Recovery Direct treatment facility.
Recovery Direct (Johannesburg Rehab) can assist with domestic flight arrangements for admitted patients. Please verify arrangements with the clinic director before hand. Travelling patients will be collected up at Johannesburg International Airport and accompanied to the facility. Please do not use your own transport or taxi services from the airport unaided or accompanied by a Recovery Direct staff member.
Your escort will have a signboard with your initials and surname and be standing by the left pillar as you exit the restricted passenger area.
International Patient Admissions
Dial 0027 81 444 7000 from the United Kingdom or reach us from the contacts above.
South African visas, contact SAvisas.com for quick and easy visa application services. International clients are most often met by our Clinical Director at Johannesburg International Airport and escorted to the facility personally.
Johannesburg Patient Admissions
Patients from Joburg will depart either from Lanseria or O.R Thambo and land in Johannesburg to be collected by the Clinic Director or Recovery Assistant staff and safely transported to the centre. Patients choose recovery in Johannesburg due to the relaxed environment away from the relapse triggers of Joburg.
Durban Patient Admissions
Patients flying from Durban will need to board at King Shaka Airport and be collected at Johannesburg International. All the same processes apply where patients are personally escorted from the airport to the rehab centre. The Recovery Direct admissions team will assist you in making the to and from the centre safely.

We have been there too
On a personal level, we have all been through this. Nothing you can say to us is beyond the scope of what we deal with every day or have been through ourselves. It is useful to think of our counsellors as family guides that are here to help and lead you or your loved one back onto a growth path that will sustain their brighter future. We understand the emotional upheavals associated with reaching out for help with these kinds of issues. We have been there and strive to make the process as pain-free and natural as possible, guiding patients to their own path of recovery.
Every assessment is completely confidential and non-binding on the patients. This is the first step in order to get help for anyone trapped within an addiction problem.
